Mebee Pass Shutter Restoration
The MVFFLA has very exciting news! The historic Mebee Pass lookout is getting new shutters! Please join us in extending a big thank you to David Adams for donating his time to rebuild these beautiful shutters and to the Carpenters Local 70 (now 425) in Burlington for their generous $500 donation toward the purchase of materials.
The tiny L-5 lookout at Mebee Pass, built in the 1930s, is one of the last standing of its kind. Replacing the temporary plywood shutters with these fully restored shutters from historical blueprints is crucial for protecting this lookout from the elements.
The Mebee Pass lookout was saved from certain demise many years ago thanks to the efforts of Barry George, John Scurlock, and now retired Methow Valley District Ranger Mike Liu. The last restoration work on Mebee was completed by the Friends of Mebee Pass in 2013. The Friends of Mebee Pass has now rolled their organization into the MVFFLA and we are working in partnership with the Methow Valley Ranger District to develop a plan for airlifting the shutters and other supplies to the lookout this summer.
Please extend your thanks to these wonderful volunteers!
